 How to Become a Member

To become a member of the Illinois Psychiatric Society (IPS), applicants must first become a member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).  They must also be a resident of the State of Illinois or have his/her principle place of practice within the State of Illinois.

Once an application is approved by the APA, the applicant will automatically become a member of the District Branch.

The classes of membership within IPS are the same as those of the APA except for special categories such as Distinguished Fellow, Honorary Fellow, and corresponding Member and Fellow.

Applications for membership are processed by the IPS Membership Committee according to the procedures established by the APA.
