Welcome to the Resident's Corner!

As Co-Chairs of the Illinois Psychiatric Society’s Residents Committee we invite you to explore this site created especially for you!

This is the inaugural year of the re-formed Residents Committee and we are thrilled to once again have a pivotal role in one of the largest state branches of the APA in the country.  Members of the Residents Committee have the unique opportunity to advocate for patients and mental health legislation at the capital building every spring, while simultaneously striving to improve the overall quality of residency training in Illinois throughout the year.  We have been thrilled by the response we’ve had so far, as many residents have infused the committee with energy and enthusiasm.

We are always looking for motivated Residents from all the Illinois Psychiatry programs, including Fellowship programs, to lend their ideas and thoughts on how the IPS Residents Committee can best provide what is useful to you as a trainee. Throughout the year we will have several social events where residents can mingle among local mental health providers, from trainees to practicing psychiatrists. We hope your involvement with IPS and the Residents Committee will provide a great wealth of information, resources and memorable moments with your colleagues.  Ultimately, we would like to represent a unified voice for all Illinois residents, and the more residents involved the stronger this voice will be!

Check the website often for upcoming events and posts about national meetings and opportunities for residents, and feel free to let us know how you would like to be involved and how we can make the most out of YOUR Resident’s Committee. Also, please send any articles or information that you would like to incorporate into the Residents Page of the IPS website to Kristen Webb at kwebb@ilpsych.orgPlease contact either of us if you have any questions, comments or concerns.

Best,
Sara Coffey D.O. sara.powers@uchosptials.edu  and
Shawn Sidhu M.D. s-sidhu@md.northwestern.edu
