2010 Advocacy Day

IPS Advocacy Day was a huge success.  Each year, the number of members attending the event has increased. The attendees included a mix of residents, early career professionals, as well as experienced psychiatrists.  The residents represented University of Chicago , Northwestern University and this year residents from Rosalind Franklin and Rush attended!  IPS was pleased to have an excellent turnout by Child & Adolescent psychiatrists to help with issues related to children and adolescents.

The event was energizing to the members.  The members effectively advocated for positions such as IPS’ Telecourt Bill, against psychology prescribing, on nursing homes issues and against HB 5279 which involves the provision of psychotropic medications to DCFS wards.

This year, for the first time, members of IPS had the opportunity to meet with Speaker of the House Michael Madigan.  The meeting went very well and the Speaker seemed to be receptive to IPS concerns regarding nursing homes.

Finally, IPS held a reception/dinner at Maldaner’s.  Rep. Fred Crespo, Rep. Dan Reitz, Rep. Sara Feigenholtz, Rep. Greg Harris and Rep. Esther Golar participated in the evening and members had an opportunity to get to know the legislators better.
